As of September IKEA Barcelona has been awarded Value Added Product Store (VAPS) market status, which has enabled its key leaders to truly embrace an entrepreneurial approach.

As such, the VAPS is expected to challenge existing policies and ways of working that revolutionize their process and results.

The Challenge

IKEA Barcelona’s  leadership team was formed remotely during COVID. Despite only having met in person a few times, they had extremely tight deadlines to deliver a strategy to dramatically grow their market penetration in the larger Catalonia area.

They needed to onboard and engage every single stakeholder to develop a market penetration plan that would drive this change—in three short days.

The Solution

With only 72 hours to finalize a high-level strategy and secure full commitment, the Barcelona management team would have to source, integrate, and leverage information from key stakeholders across IKEA Spain in advance.

We began by designing an intensive 3-day program that would optimize knowledge sharing, enabling them to develop a strong collective sense of their customers, market conditions, and organizational strengths and weaknesses. By Day Two, IKEA Catalunya had identified 5-6 strategic “change levers” and could relate them directly to customer pains and gains—the focus points of a 6-year strategy.

On the final day, IKEA Catalunya pulled everything together, connecting strengths and opportunities to create detailed plans for different change levers. By the end of Day 3, our executives not only had an in-depth, holistic plan but the full team’s engagement and commitment. Just as critically, we had helped them sign psychological contracts that would bring it all to life.

Results

In just 3 days, TTGG’s inclusive strategizing approach helped IKEA Catalunya hit the ground running.
